Wow, You-in-Twenty-Years, you rock!

They look so artistic--it almost looks like a dance (though I'm sure it'd hurt a lot of they didn't let their bodies "give" like that!)

It is really cool, isn't it!

You can just imagine M's reaction to this with his TKD background. He can't take it very seriously because your opponent actually has to be working with you to a certain exent and it has pretty much zero street-cred. ;-) I have to remind him that this is a kampfkunst and not a kampfsport.

We've actually practiced a version of this particular take-down in class, but it doesn't look anything like the one in the film when I do it. (yet...)

Yeah, and it's great, except for the fact that they don't play Fatboy Slim in the background. Maybe that would improve my moves! ;-)

Very cool!
What's it called?

The sport is called Aikido, and the takedown that he's demonstrating is Irimi nage.

I'm still just a newbie at Aikido, but am really enjoying it-- it's a martial art, but isn't as hard a contact-sport like Taekwando. You wouldn't believe the bruises and haematomas that M comes home with! He thinks the sparring is exciting, but it's really just not my thing!

How are things going with you all? Are you all settled in?

how are you doing?

Hi! Thanks for checking in on me, Goofball! I'm fine-- the kids had their easter break which seriously cut into my internet time. ;-) I'll be back into the swing of things again soon...
