Last minute save

B had to bring in a craft to do with his class as part of Advent. So over the past couple of weeks the anxiety level has been building around here because he's convinced that this one activity could make or break his reputation as an utterly cool guy.

Those of you who remember my own anxiety-laden attempts at being artsy can probably sympathize with the dread I've been feeling about coming up with something which is "just right" when B's entire social future is at stake. I mean, really, I would like to become a grandmother someday!

And then suddenly, VOILA! I had a brainstorm between glasses of Tempranillo. Marshmallow Snowmen, Ahoy! Now let's just hope his classmates think they're as cute (and tasty!) as he does!

SO cute! You're a genius. Really. Be will have to start handing out autographed photos of himself.

Once German kids have tasted marshmallows, they never go back!

Thank goodness for Tempranillo! These are darling! B's classmates must have been totally enchanted... But, what did you use to make the faces?

I'd been really struggling with how to make the faces-- I'd considered sending big tubes of non-washable decorating gel as a revenge on the teacher!

But she was saved by a recipe on the Internet that suggested making the design using toothpicks dipped into food coloring. It dried quickly and was surprisingly clean since it was done here in a controlled environment. ;-)

Another good mother saving her son from social hell.
Good job!

These are great. Thanks for the follow up info on how you did the faces, I was going to ask. Where do you buy marshmallows?

So how were the snowmen received? Did B score points or is he doomed to an eternity of ridicule and swirlies?

Don't know where you've been?!!! Antarctica, Argentina, Brasil... I think that explains it! ;-)

These turned out great, thanks! Not only were they cute, but they had an exotic appeal as well because German kids do not seem to know about American marshmallows! (Even though we actually found them in a German supermarket!)

Hope you're doing well! I'm really enjoying your pictures and stories!
