I got a well-needed laugh during the morning grind this morning. Like every other news source in the western world NPR was mired in the ridiculous flap about the now infamous lipstick comment. Then Robert Siegel, God love him, interviewed a farmer from Virginia, who was in his field surrounded by pigs. He was, of course, armed with a tube of ruby red lipstick. His goal was to try to apply lipstick to the swine just to see if it was possible.
So you hear the farmer drawling: "Well, its kinda like putting lipstick on a hairbrush. They don't have much lip!"
His final conclusion? It is possible, but it didn't really improve the pig's appearance. "But maybe if you put a cummerbund around his loins and some Birkenstocks on his hooves it may improve it a little bit..."

that's funny. Good to have a laugh about a campaign which has become quite harsh and full personal attacks, unfortunately.
Hey, if you're going to use the cummerbund, maybe you should put the piggy in dress shoes rather than Birks?
I know! See, that's why it was so funny-- it was just so off the wall that it cracked me up!
The link I included goes to the page where you can listen to the interview-- click it if you need a smile! :-)
Silly season indeed. Lurking Lisa
Where are the photos, that's what I want to know...
They'd be good for another laugh!
I saw the Letterman episode on YouTube where Obama easily explained what was an obviously taken out of context statement meant to be a description of McCain's policy and not Palin's looks. Then in a moment of afterthought innocently sought to rationalize it with Palin being the lipstick in the scenario. Hilarious stuff.
I know the guy's a politician but the more I know about him the more I find to like. I so hope this man is our next President. He definitely seems like the lesser of two unknown-and-possibly-evil's.
the other lurking Lisa
Thanks for the tip about the Letterman interview, Lisa! I just watched it and really enjoyed it. He is so incredibly charismatic, a fact which I hadn't experienced fully since I'm only ever exposed to newspaper articles and radio reports over here...
Oh man, this I've got to hear! Thanks for the link...
